Medical Spanish and Clinical Volunteer Program
MEDICAL INTRODUCTORY SPANISH COURSE
- This program had been geared towards professionals in all health fields demanding for a basic conversational knowledge of Spanish.
- Recommended modality: 2 weeks of Intensive Spanish program (40 Group classes and 20 one-to-one classes); 2 weeks of clinical shadowing in a hospital. This program can be changed in length and program specifics as we realize that many medical professionals cannot commit to a four week program.
- The price for the four week program is $1230 USD and does not include accommodations. Please note that we can alter the length of this program and provide you with a specialized price quote. The ILEE school offers both homestays and apartments at very affordable rates.
The Medical Introductory Spanish Course will cover a wide range of topics from anatomical vocabulary, medical terminology and procedures to doctor-patient relationship. The student of this course will learn systematically the different grammar structure in his / her group classes and will focused in Medical Spanish in his / her private classes. This course will allow English-speaking healthcare professionals learn the basics for a better communication with Spanish-speaking patients. All the lessons include role-playing conversation drills with Healthcare terminology. The Intermediate classes concentrated on conversational situation with patients.
This course will allow healthcare professionals to make themselves understood in simple situations using:
- Role-plays
- Specific vocabulary
- Exercises
In this course, structure, grammar and syntax are presented in a conversational context. The exercises, role-plays and conversations in each unit are used as springboards for the introduction of medical terminology and language patterns.
This program offers to the students the opportunities of:
- Acting as speakers, listeners, readers and writers being able to perform in different communicative contexts with colleagues and patients
- Getting in touch with the sanitary problems in our country as they pertain to relevant health issues.
- Performing in real communicative contexts with patients and other medical professionals through a shadowing in a hospital.
Group classes are held from 9:00h to 13:00h and the private Medical course is held from 13:30h to 15:30h Monday through Friday. Medical Shadowing hours are typically from 9:00h to 14:00h but may vary by specialty and the student does pure clinical shadowing for the last two weeks of the program.
