Madrid - Course Information

The Courses

The sole objective of Eureka is the teaching of Spanish. The school's method is based on direct contact between teacher and student and on establishing a relaxed atmosphere so that learning comes naturally and is reinforced by practice and communication. The teachers, all university graduates, have many years of experience and are highly specialized in the teaching of Spanish. They have been specially chosen to ensure your success. All levels of Spanish are accommodated from beginners to advanced. The programs are intended for adults, ages 18 and up. There is a maximum of 7 students per class, an important factor to ensure progress.

1. Intensive Course 20 - Classes are from 9am to 1 Mon through Fri. Pronunciation, grammar, usage, conversation, reading comprehension and composition. From 1 to 12 weeks. Students have the same grammar teacher for the whole course. Conversation teachers are rotated every 3 days for variation of voices. Group class of 7 students maximum.


2. Intensive Course 30 - The same as above, but more intensely. Classes are from 9am to 1 and 2:20 to 4pm.


3. Intensive Course 20 + 1 private - Group classes in the morning and 1 private hour in the afternoon in order to customize your program, study special vocabulary or make faster progress.


4. Intensive Course 20 + 2 private - Same as above with 2 private hours daily.


5. Private Course 20 classes - These classes are designed for those who have limited time or very specific vocabulary needs such as law, business or medicine. Classes are 9am to 1pm.

6. Private Course 30 classes - Classes 9 to 1, 2:20 to 4pm.

7. 50+ Spanish-includes Spanish classes as well as excursions and activities geared towards the more experienced student.  2011 Start Dates: May 3, May 27


Activities & Excursions

You can participate in an exciting program of activities and excursions outside of class. Through this you will gain an extensive knowledge of the exciting country of Spain, its culture, art and history. You can participate on a one by one basis or buy a package which includes everything for the week, including transportation, guide and entry tickets.

Two activities offered per week (one free) and one excursion every two weekends. The price for
each activity includes transportation, a guide from the school and tickets to places of interest.


ACTIVITIES


We offer activities such as:

  • A tour of Old Madrid: The Austrian part of Madrid. We'll learn about the history of Puerta del Sol, La Plaza Mayor, La Plaza del Ayuntamiento, El Palacio Real, and other sites.
  • El Museo del Prado: Spain's most important art collection and one of the best in the world. We'll
    see paintings by Goya, El Greco, Ribera, Zurbarán, Murillo and Velázquez.
  • El Palacio Real: Built in the 18th century by King Philip V, the first Bourbon king of Spain.
  • El Centro de Arte Reina Sofía: Modern Spanish art featuring Juan Gris, Miró, Dalí and, of
    course, Picasso (especially El Guernica, his most controversial and well-known work). 
  • El Convento de las Descalzas Reales: A convent located right in the heart of Madrid. It has been
    a place of solace, prayer and art since the 16th century.
  • El Convento de la Encarnación: Founded by Queen Margarita of Austria, the wife of Philip III, in 1611. It is noteworthy for its vial containing the dried blood of St. Pantaleón.
  • El Museo y la Fábrica de Tapices: Established in 1721 by King Philip V. Its weavers use the same techniques today that were used in the 18th century.
  • El Parlamento: The history of the Spanish constitution and the Parliament, created by Queen Isabella II in 1850.
  • El Museo Municipal de Madrid: The history of Madrid and its historical figures through paintings, drawings, sculptures and other objects.
  • El Museo Lázaro Galdiano: A private art collection donated by its founder. It displays jewels, paintings, sculptures, furniture and many other objects.
  • El Panteón de Goya: The San Antonio de la Florida hermitage, which houses the remains of the genius painter from Aragón. The chapel was decorated by Goya and depicts the miracle performed
    by San Antonio.
  • El Ayuntamiento: The city hall premises and the mayor's office.
  • El Museo de Artes Decorativas: A collection of objects formerly used in everyday life that are now considered objects d’art.
  • El Museo Sorolla: The former home of the painter Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida. His widow donated it to create the museum.

EXCURSIONS


This program includes:

  • El Escorial: The monastery built by Philip II in the 16th century
  • El Valle de los Caídos: Franco's Pantheon, a symbol of the dictatorship in Spain
  • Aranjuez: The spring palace of the Spanish royalty
  • Chinchón: One of the most typical castilian towns
    Segovia: A city with a roman aqueduct, a castle and a cathedral
  • La Granja: The summer palace of the Spanish royalty
    Toledo: The seat of the Spanish court during the reign of Charles V.
  • The cathedral, the Santo
    Tomé church, El Greco's house, San Juan de los Reyes and two synagogues.
  • El Pardo: The Royal Palace, former residence of Franco
  • Manzanares El Real: A romantic castle in the mountains
  • Ávila: A romanesque walled city. We'll visit the wall, the Plaza Mayor and some churches, and take a walk to experience the atmosphere within the walls.
  • We'll make paella in the country and swim in a river, spending a fun day in the sun.

 

Activity & Excursion Pricing


1 week 2 activities (one free) 10 euros
2 weeks 4 activities (two free) + 1 excursion 60 euros
3 weeks 6 activites (three free) + 1 excursion 70 euros
4 weeks 8 activiteis (four free) + 2 excursions 120 euros
Activities.- Includes 2 cultural activities (one free) per week in Madrid and 1 excursion
every two weekends to cities of cultural and historical interest. Price per activity 10 euros,
price per excursion 30 euros. This price includes our guide and tickets to the museums and
transportation in a private bus during excursions. (We offer this cultural program for a
minimum of 7 students.)


Students

Eureka's students come from all the world and are of all adult ages. There are many European students, with a smaller percentage coming from the U.S. Minimum age for study is 18 or completion of high school. Students come with a variety of purposes, backgrounds and levels of Spanish.


Calendar - open during Christmas holidays

There is a minimum stay of two weeks, except in the case of private classes. If you are a complete beginner, you must start on one of the official start dates. Other levels or private class students may start on any Monday, throughout the year.

2010 Holidays (if student attends classes for only 2 weeks, these holidays will be compensated for by extra hours of class): January 1, 6; March 19; April 9, 10; May 1, 15; September 9; October 12; December 7, 8, and 25.
