Please note that the trip can be changed to fewer or longer weeks, and more activities or less. We completely customize your trip. We recommend at least three weeks for academic credit programs.
You will arrive into Liberia on your own arranged flight, where you will be picked up by private transport from the school. You will have lunch along the way of the two hour trip to Sámara Beach. Your host families will be waiting to meet you, and you may have a private or shared room, and enjoy breakfast and dinner with your host family. In the evening you will have a walking tour of Sámara Beach, this charming beach town of 3,000, located in the Guanacaste area of Costa Rica.
After an early morning breakfast with your family you will be guided to Intercultura. This school is located directly on the beach, in a building specifically constructed for educational needs. Intercultura has an outstanding reputation for academic excellence and contented students. You will have placement testing and an orientation meeting at the school. Lunch will be at a restaurant arranged by the school. Your classes today in groups of six students only will be 1pm to 5pm. You will return to your host family for dinner. In the evening you will enjoy a class of a typical Costa Rican artesanía.
Today your classes will be from 8am to noon, as the schedule of classes is alternated each day to give students adequate beach time. After your restaurant lunch you will participate in a volunteer activity through CREAR, a local organization which conducts service projects for the community and especially children. This will give you great insight into Costa Rican life. After dinner with your family you will have a free evening or have an in town activity arranged by your director, such as meeting at a local place for coconut ice cream.
You will begin your day with a surf class including one hour of instruction and one hour practice time. Sámara is a great place for surfing, as the waves are adequate, but it is also a protected area. After lunch your classes will be from 1pm to 5pm. After dinner with your family you will play in an organized fútbol game, remembering that this is soccer in Latin America.
Today your classes are 8am to 12pm. After lunch enjoy a lively salsa dance class, followed by a typical cooking class where you will learn to prepare Costa Rican dishes. In the evening you will travel to nearby Nicoya for a dinner with local live folk music, mixing with the locals and experiencing what they enjoy on a night out.
Classes today are 8am to 1pm, as they include a weekly exam and an additional cultural class on varying subjects. After lunch you will take an Ecohike to Playa Izquierda. Along the way you will do some beach cleanup, thereby helping the environment and participating in the ecology of the area. After dinner with your family you will have a free evening or an in town activity arranged by your director.
You will have an early morning departure for an exciting overnight trip…to see the very live volcano Arenal! Along the way you will have lunch. In the afternoon after checking into shared rooms in the hotel, you will visit La Fortuna, have a blast on the river swings, and visit the hot springs. You will have a buffet dinner, complete with evening viewing of the volcano, which usually performs on cue by spewing smoke and small lava blasts into the air. It’s a sight not to be missed.
After breakfast at the hotel you will visit one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Costa Rica. You will have lunch en route and return to Sámara in the afternoon. After dinner you will have your evening free, and maybe review your volcano pictures and send them to all your friends!
The morning will be free. After a restaurant lunch your Spanish classes will be 1pm to 5 pm. In late afternoon you will have another class of local artesanías. After dinner with your family you will have a yoga class in Spanish. You’ll learn all sorts of new vocabulary, including “Respire!” and “Relájese”.
Your classes today will be 8am to 12pm. After a restaurant lunch you will have another opportunity to be a community volunteer through CREAR, giving back to the community in return for what you are so greatly enjoying. After dinner with your family, enjoy a bonfire at the beach.
Today you will begin the day with a sea kayak tour to Isla Chora, including snorkeling.
Explore all the thrills of this Costa Rican sea. After lunch your classes will be 1pm to 5pm. Your evening is free unless your director has organized an in town activity such as group shopping.
Classes today are 8am to noon. After a restaurant lunch you will have another lively Salsa Dance Class, followed by a cooking class. After dinner with your family enjoy an evening out including salsa dancing and drinks included.
Classes are from 8 to 1, including a graduation ceremony. After lunch you will have the afternoon free to enjoy the beach or practice more surfing. After dinner with your family you will return to school for a movie…in Spanish, of course!

After lunch you will have the afternoon free for a last beach visit or souvenir shopping. The day will end with a Farewell Dinner, followed by a Games Night. Then it’s back to your host family to pack.
Preparing to say farewell to your Costa Rican family, you will depart with luggage by private transport to the Liberia airport for your flight home.
